Mourning ....

He was an angel. He left too soon. I shall mourn his passing forever. My angel. In snowy days I shall wander the earth in search of the legacy of your heart and soul. The only love I've ever truly known. I live by your wisdom. No one shall ever cross me or betray me with you at my side. In wings I lay and rest my dreams... and awake tomorrow a new day!

GIRL POWER!

A twist on an old tale....

Real Friends

Real friends do not judge. Real friends don't spread slanderous bullshit. Real friends will take a bullet for you. Real friends will peel back the layers to find the roots. Real friends will set you free and help you spread your wings. Real friends will defend your honor. Real friends will keep you warm on the coldest of nights and cool you with a whisper on the warmest of days. Real friends won't be bothered by time and space. Real friends will wish on a star for you rather then for themselves. A real friend will not allow the day to pass and end without the truest of words. Real friends are your safety and support in the most treacherous of hours and the healing begins with just one kiss.... a hand to hold.......................................................................

STOP DOG FIGHTING!!!

Although dog fighting is a felony in all 50 United States, there are still some states that don't take it seriously. As with any other illegal underground activity, it's impossible to determine how many people may be involved in dog fighting, but estimates are in the tens of thousands. This brutal blood sport is a pastime for rich and poor alike, and dog fighting has been reported in urban, suburban and rural settings in all regions of the country.

Please sign the petition and help end this heinous sport forever.

Remembering Marilyn 1926-1962

"Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius and
it's better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring."
~ Marilyn Monroe

"I believe that everything happens for a reason. People change so that you can learn to let go, things go wrong so that you appreciate them when their right, you believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together." ~ Marilyn Monroe

There are FAR more IMPORTANT things to think about...

Fun House

I'm done with dwelling in the same circumstances. The repeating bullshit. The walls speak of nothing new. It's all pretend in the Fun-House. The fake words and empty sentiments. Iit's time to step outside and walk in a new direction... LIFE waits for no one! It's up to you.

Roll 'Em, Benny!

Jean meet Jimmy....

This is what it's all about....

"Forever Lulu"

There was only one Lulu. One raven-haired rebel named Louise Brooks. She's one of my favorites. A true flapper. Watching her films late, late at night with a glass of wine by the fire is absolute magic.

The Bee's Knees

I read The Great Gatsby at least three times a year. It's my favorite book of ALL time! I adore Jay Gatsby layer by layer. I love the era, the mischievous red-lipped flapper and the debonair gents dressed to the nines. The music and dance, the glamour and cinema. There's nothing quite like it. I just spent the afternoon watching films of the angelic Jean Harlow. Then, I found this wonderful piece on youtube. How fun!

R.I.P. Michael

There Is No Death

There is a plan far greater than the plan you know;
There is a landscape broader than the one you see.
There is a haven where storm-tossed souls may go-
You call it death - we, immortality.
You call it death - this seeming endless sleep;
We call it birth - the soul at last set free.
'Tis hampered not by time or space - you weep.
Why weep at death? 'Tis immortality.

Farewell, dear voyageur -'twill not be long.
Your work is done - now may peace rest with thee.
Your kindly thoughs and deeds- they will live on.
This is not death -'tis immortality.

Farewell, dear voyageur - the river winds and turns;
The cadence of your song wafts near to me,
And now you know the thing that all men learn:
There is no death - there's immortality.

Never Can Say Goodbye.....

I am still spinning from the losses we've had to face lately. I think it finally hit me last night that Michael Jackson is gone. I don't go around exploiting his memory by spreading words and posting images that cannot fully capture my feelings. So, I remain quiet. I listen to old songs, especially from the Jackson Five era. I clearly recall moments of my own childhood so with his passing those moments seem to go with him. Yet, just the same, I cling to to them. The one song that touches me deepest is "Never Can Say Goodbye". There, in that song, are chapters of my own life. Chapters that will never go away. Just as Michael never really will.

I don't want to be angry but at times I cannot contain this emotion. I see the way the media is now "celebrating" him yet when he was ALIVE and needed them to stand by him they were harsh, cruel and hung him at the gallows. It was done to Princess Diana, too. Who are we to judge, especially now when so many reports are surfacing that the allegations were made because money was being made. It makes me sick!

So, I will take moments like these and fully embrace them because I will never allow a moment to pass without there being understanding, compassion, love, forgiveness... life is too short. When it's over, it's too late. All we have is here and now.

Then there is Farrah. I had her haircut. I had her dolls. Of all the "Angels" I wanted to be her. I should find the photo of myself with the "Farrah". I think you'd get such a kick out of it. I know I do. It meant so much to me to have that style. Oh, precious childhood, where have you gone?! A few years ago my "Mazzy" embodied her in a tribute piece I painted.

I watched the documentary she left behind and in those moving images and poet words of pain, suffering, love and passion I found pure hope and raw courage. Gone was the icon and there was the woman, REAL in every sense, that will forever inspire me. Inspire me in ways that REALLY matter most in life.

I pray they both rest in peace but that their lingering legacies move us forward and inspire us to do more with our own lives... no matter what!

Writing calms my senses and opens the doors of perception which allow the "ALICE" in me to step down into the rabbit hole, unafraid, and ready to conquer new moments, new beginnings, new experiences...

Quote of the Day....

"The thing about happiness is that it doesn't help you to grow; only unhappiness does that. So I'm grateful that my bed of roses was made up equally of blossoms and thorns." ~ Lana Turner

MJ 1977

My favorite Jackson Five song...

I remember this episode. Seems like yesterday. The same year we lost Elvis and my sister was born named after Lisa Marie Presley. Where does time go?

Pet Pawtraits ROCK!

I love painting animals! I've been meaning to post this one for quite some time now but only now have the time... and only because I can't sleep (although I should've been in bed hours ago!) Here are "Gracie and Sadie" for the Holliday Family:

For my lil Chicago Baby Cub.....

Anyone can say they're a friend but the true testament of friendship is when you're up against the wall with a sword at your throat -- who will be there to get you out of harms way? It takes courage to love and it takes even more courage to face the rough times without letting the bullshit, pains and frustations of life step in the way of the good. It's difficult to see through the rain storms at times but my friendship is like the eternal flame -- nothing, no season, no time, no weather pattern shall ever extinguish the bond that is and has always been there. Though miles divide us and we be made of a millions little pieces our bond forms ONE beautiful tapestry. We've had to deal with so much lately but even when we scream, cry and fight in the end LOVE is all that matters. In love there is respect and there are angels.

I miss my BFF today...

I think that passion and love and pain are all bearable, and they go to make love beautiful. ~ Robert Plant

All that GLITTERS is gold...................

Portuguese Diva of FADO....

Look at this setting and that dress...... and that voice.... this one is for my best friend who knows & loves where I come from ....

Piece of Me....

Mariza is a Portuguese TREASURE. Her voice is mystical and a reminder of where I come from. She sings FADO a type of poetry set to music that was born in Portugal. At one point in history FADO was sung only to royalty. If you ever get to see Mariza or simply listen to her you're soul will never be the same. When she appeared on David Letterman the crowd fell silent... this is the reaction everyone has. She is hypnotic. Her style is also so beautiful. I was watching RTP with my parents last night and saw the Saints celebration in Lisbon atop the Castle St. George (not far from where I was born)... it brought tears to my eyes. Here is a piece of me... where I come from...

Restless

What does the word 'exhaustion' mean to you? Define, please. Let's make a list. My insomnia has peaked this week. Especially tonight. I'll be up when I should be sleeping. Ok, I think I'll watch Peyton Place. I love Lana Turner. The other day I was told I look like her. Interesting thing about that is my Mom has called me "Lana" my whole life. But there's a funny story behind the reason. More later. Storm approaching... time to turn off the PC and turn on the DVD. Time to settle in for the night, somehow.... someway. I am missing someone tonight. Wonder if they know WHO they are.... ?

a simple wish....

It's been a long week.....

Through the rough patches of pirate-possessed waters and Disney princesses missing their glass slippers and slippery mermaid fins... OK, I survived. What better way to end this crazy week than with a little romantic modern swing... LOVE THIS SONG!!! It makes me happy!

"Friends can help each other. A true friend is someone who lets you have total freedom to be yourself - and especially to feel. Or, not feel. Whatever you happen to be feeling at the moment is fine with them. That's what real love amounts to - letting a person be what he really is."

You always find what you need to say...

This time I found the truth of my feelings in the wise words of my beloved friend Sarah in London. Thank you, darling, this is exactly how I feel and what I need to say.

"My intuition never fails me. I fail it. My heart is my compass. My mind my watch. My spirit my diary."

stormy night allure......

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore -
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of someone gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
«Tis some visitor», I muttered, «tapping at my chamber door:
Only this and nothing more».

Wisdom of the Wise

Never Before Seen Photos of Marilyn.....

Happy Birthday, Marilyn!

On June 1st: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MARILYN!

This collection of pix of a young starlet Marilyn are amongst my favorte images of her. There is something so magical going on between the sea, the sand and her golden light.

I grew up playing on the sands and dancing in the seamist of Tobey Beach where these photos were taken! What a thrill I get thinking how lucky I am to have done so.

Marilyn would've been 83 this year. Forever loved and missed but never forgotten xoxox

This video is adorable.... the song fits perfectly ;-)

I seem to recognize ......................

A Face Without a Name....

I wanted to try something new with this glamour girl. She is very much a '40s bombshell but this time with a twist of Patrick Nagel the legendary artist of the 1980s. She remainds untitled. Her gaze is spellbinding. She's a mysterious beauty. Hmmmm? What shall I name her?

Blackbird Rising

Summer is here.

I imagine mermaids splashing and singing along the bubbling seashores. On the blazing horizon the sun radiates new lights.

I emerge from the blissful isolation of my melodious art studio nearly prepared to introduce a new series of paintings. But, since the collection isn't quite complete I will wait to write more. I will unveil them when the time is right.

I've been so inspired lately but not painting as much. I sketch more than ever. I adore the ever changing outlets of creativity, I am not hindered or stifled or bored, I am constantly inspired and in motion.

Things in my life are growing and deepening therefore my soul expands like the Archangel's wings. There is excitement and anticipation in the air falling all around like soft summer rain. The golds and silvers of days & nights glisten on the wings of the blackest blackbird.

"Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise..."

Miss Bettie Page

Here's a painting called SEA SIREN a pin-up mermaid inspired by Bettie Page. She was exhibiting at the CAP Studio for a little while but the day she came home I walked in the door and heard the news that Miss Bettie Page had passed away. Here is what I wrote in my journal that day:

Saturday, December 13, 2008 ~ Goodbye, Miss Bettie Page
I'm sad. Bettie Page is gone.

I know many people didn't even know she was still alive but for those of us who knew of her life we mourn deeply and weep because even at 85 she was still too young to go.
I, for one, wish I had met her. A conversation about womanhood, life, sex, art, faith. At the very least I'd love to have shown her my artwork -- the paintings I've done of her, inspired by HER, along the years. Oh, if only.
Bettie embodied beauty, raw and flirtatious femininity, in all her kittenish, sexy ways she was a true warrior for the sexual revolution ~~~ she personified Girl Power!
Bettie was a women ahead of her time yet she was not only perfectly placed on the covers of magazines but in time. The fifties pin-up was Bettie Page just as Elvis was Rock & Roll. She was a natural. Bettie shall always be the Queen of Pin-Up. There will never be another.

In countless ways she is the Queen of my Glitter Girls collection ~ she along with Marilyn Monroe. These two original beauties ~ the dove and the raven ~ have always been at the forefront of inspiration for my pin-up art. They are true Glitter Girls ~ beautiful rebels of glamour and womanly sexiness.

Goodbye, Bettie Page... I know the heavens won't know what to do with you and Marilyn. In your leopard print, pink palaces on cloud 9 I hope you both rest in peace but stay wild and free as you've always been. Say hello to Jimmy, Elvis, Jim, John and Michael for me.
I love you.

The last painting I created in 2008 was inspired by Bettie... it's called "Sea Siren"... and it exhibited until yesterday when I brought her home and got the news that Miss Bettie had passed away. It's always about timing, isn't it.

Sofie Reed sings about my GLITTER GIRLS!

Beautiful songbird Sofie Reed sings about my "Glitter Girls" with a new original song. Please visit her site and show her love & support. She is a bright star who has a light that shines on for immeasurable miles. Her music will captivate you, her voice will mesmerize you. She personifies what it is to be a true GLITTER GIRL!
